The Nature of Spirit – Part 1: Composition and Procreation

Introduction

In the new book of scripture, the Song of God, the words “spirit” and “soul” are not synonymous. While some exceptions exist, these terms are used throughout the text to refer to different things. I have begun to clarify this difference in my previous post on the “Nature of Soul“, which I recommend reading prior to this essay which will be the first in a series exploring major concepts, events and features relating to the nature and origins of spirit, as portrayed in the context of Wood’s cosmology and the Song of God. By doing so, I hope to create a conceptual foundation whereupon greater discussion and exploration can occur.

In Wood’s cosmology, spirit is a major component that bridges the eternal and the temporal, the immortal with the mortal. Both spirit and soul connect the human species with “God”. But what is the specific nature of this connection? To what do the words “spirit”, “soul” and “God” specifically refer? In the following series, I will examine the relationship between Wood’s conception of spirit, soul and God, while keeping an overarching focus on the topic of spirit.

As we begin this journey, allow me to re-establish some key concepts that are foundational to Wood’s theology. First, life preceded the existence of God. I’ll get to defining “God” later in this series, but what’s important is understanding that in Wood’s cosmogony, God did not create the first successful life-supporting universe. Rather, God had a beginning, arose from a natural process, and continues to evolve. This claim underscores an important distinction between the feminine Primordial Mind behind creation, and the supreme manifestation arising from the desires and intentions of that First Mind. In contemplating the supreme, spatiotemporal manifestation (or actualization) of the transcendent Fundamental Consciousness, we begin to apprehend Wood’s portrayal of both “spirit” and “God”.

Another radical pillar of Wood’s theosophy is that it presents humankind as the species that gave rise to “God”.[1]The obvious question here is: How could a god-like being evolve from the human species when anatomically modern humans have only been around for a few hundred thousand years? I have addressed this … Continue reading Consider the following statements included in a list of tenets written by Wood in 2007[2]Wood, Song of God (2015), p viii; see Basic Beliefs:

The only proper religion for mankind is humanity itself, for it is from this humanity that God first evolved. God, who is our future, came from humans, who are Their past.

“God is a glorified and exalted human being.”

The concept of God is represented by two distinct and separate persons, our Heavenly Father and our Heavenly Mother.

We are the literal spiritual offspring of God, and have the capacity to become just like our Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother if we so choose.

These proclamations[3]One might notice that these radical statements echo basic claims presented in LDS (Mormon) cosmology. Literal descendance from God as well as a pre-mortal existence are pillars of Mormon belief. … Continue reading summarize a prominent motif within the Song of God: a natural process gave rise to human immortality and the eventual development of an equitable system of deification and eternal progression that is inextricably linked with the mortal human experience.

But how does it work? How did it all begin? How does “spirit” enter into the evolution of God? And what does spirit have to do with us?

In this series on the “Nature of Spirit”, I will begin to answer these questions using the Song of God, and in doing so, provide a better understanding of how this new book of scripture portrays God and who we are as human beings.

What is Spirit?

When it comes to certain details pertaining to the nature of spirit, the Song of God is clear and consistent. However, despite what Wood’s writings reveal about this topic, there is ample room for speculation and interpretation.

Within the context of the Song of God, I have identified several distinct yet interrelated meanings or usages of the term “spirit”. The three fields of meaning outlined below are not meant to be comprehensive or conclusive, but rather, these are simply a personal attempt to organize and articulate three facets of the “spirit” concept.

First Meaning: The term “spirit” is used infrequently in scripture as an adjective which describes worlds and realities that have an incorporeal existence not bound by space and time. Perhaps in some similarity to Plato’s Theory of Forms and other philosophical frameworks[4]See also: Whitehead’s eternal objects, Sheldrake’s morphogenetic fields and Bohm’s Implicate Order, these transcendent spirit worlds exist as sweet enchantments that inform corporeal manifestations and gently compel that which is less towards that which is greater.

Wood’s spirit world environments foreshadow what corporeal domains (both divine and common) will or may become. Existing as way stations for souls engaged in the reincarnation process, these spirit worlds instill forms, shapes and patterns upon the souls that temporarily occupy them, thus serving as a prognostication of what certain spatiotemporal realms might become in their future (4:15:39-49; Song of God (2015), p 805 (Commentary: House of El Shalon / El Shaloah—Part 5. Chief Artificer/Great Mother Spirit; See also: Anamnesis; Paradise; the Keep).

Generally speaking, this understanding of spirit has to do with dreams becoming visions, and potentiality being converted into actuality (4:2:7).

Second Meaning: The word “spirit” is often used in reference to the Grand Intelligence that underlies all of life and creation. Existing “in all and through all”, this universal soul-mind and cosmic life-force possesses the basic mandates that govern the laws of creation and evolution.[5]Examples of “spirit” as the universal soul-mind, cosmic life-force, Prime/Grand Etherium: Pearl 10; Pearl 14; Yeshua 26:36-44; Yeshua 51:24-29; 2nd Endowment 6:28-30; 4th Endowment 8:41; … Continue reading Utilized in this particular context, “spirit” carries the grand designs, dreams and intentions of Eternal Mind, and is represented on a fundamental level by what is referred to as “AZ particles” [pronounced: ay-zee]. This understanding of “spirit” includes but is not restricted to the fundamental element and intelligence from which autonomous bodies of spirit are organized (see Third Meaning).

To expand on this particular understanding of “spirit”, I would like to recognize the correlation in scripture between the terms “spirit” and “breath”, specifically, the “breath of God” or the “breath of life”. This breath of spirit is also connected to the “glory of God”, “intelligence”, and also the workings of the “Holy Spirit”. A deeper exploration into the relation and meaning of these words and phrases, and how they relate to soul is merited.[6]References connecting “spirit” with the “breath of God”, “breath of life” and “intelligence”: Beginnings 1:5; Beginnings 1:26; Wisdom 14:14-16; … Continue reading

Third Meaning: In Wood’s metaphysics the most prevalent use of the term “spirit” refers to unique, intelligent, individual, self-conscious, autonomous, eternal entities that are intentionally fashioned (or organized) from the fundamental intelligence represented by AZ particles. These spirit entities are created by God, or—in the case of human spirits—are direct, literal offspring of a spirit Mother and Father. The spirit body (or tabernacle) is what contains (or houses) an individual’s soul. It is this (third) understanding of the term “spirit” that will remain the primary focus of this post.

The Spirit Body

For you, my children, are the seed of some eternal dream cast down upon the earth; being filled within yourself by some endless wonder and deeper mystery which even you cannot see; having leaped forth from the soul of God’s desiring in a sea of endless light;
~2nd Endowment 7:43~

Individual human spirits are procreated (or organized[7]At the time of this writing, I can only speculate as to the significance of the term “organize” as it relates to the process of bringing forth spirit children. Other terms used to … Continue reading) by God—as represented by a Heavenly Mother and a Heavenly Father.[8]Could human spirit be considered its own species, e.g. homo spiritus? I’m not sure if the word “species” appropriately describes what’s going on with this particular … Continue reading Human spirits are individual, autonomous, genetically unique, eternal entities brought forth through a passionate, orgasmic, love-making event that forges AZ particles into human spirit embryos.

While spirit children are brought forth by a Heavenly Mother and Father, the creation and development of soul is left up to each individual spirit child.

As discussed in my previous essay: soul is an epiphenomenon that preserves the memory and identity of an individual beyond the dictates of space and time. Soul is formless, incorporeal and ethereal, existing as the totality of one’s character, personality and holiness. The nature of soul is boundless and immeasurable, infinite and endless, while a spirit body has boundaries and is spatially locatable.

Wood likened the spirit to a quaint, little cottage that contains within the walls and boundaries of its structure a room with a door that leads to an endless expanse.

The soul of a person is contained within the walls and boundaries of the Spirit, but once you enter within the walls of your Spirit—to gaze upon the soul which is the sum of all your character, personality, wisdom and goodness—you gaze at something that is endless and goes on forever…It is the Spirit which makes us eternal, but it is the soul which gives us depth.

Wood; Unpublished Journal Manuscript, entry: March 13, 1998

As the soul of an individual is housed within the spirit body, the spirit is temporarily housed by the mortal, physical body. The spirit houses and provides access to soul.[9]I use the words “house”, “contain” and “possess” to describe the spirit’s relationship to soul based on various passages (e.g. 3:32:28-29; 4:14:45). Not only this, I suspect the spirit tabernacle may serve as a facilitating agent for soul creation and development.

In Wood’s cosmology, exaltation and eternal increase are primary objectives of Eternal Mind. Put simply (perhaps overly so), this aim is accomplished through soul creation and development, and by achieving increasing degrees of oneness midst increasing degrees of opposition. Soul development and the magnification of glory is born through adversity and struggle arising from the conflict of opposing powers, dominions and principalities. Alternately stated: the soul is given life and shape by the coming together of good and evil.

Spirit children develop soul and magnify glory by entering into environments of opposition. Mortality provides such an environment. Though conditions and limitations apply, human spirits are capable of integrating with mortal human bodies as a way to increase in strength and power, and to build and refine soul (4:9:33; 4:14:18b; 4:9:24; 5:1:39-44).

…for into the tabernacles of mortal men [and women] would God send forth the children of Heaven whereby they might attain unto a wisdom and holiness all their own, being made to know for themselves the Oneness and balance of all things together.

4th Endowment 7:20

The mortal, physical body serves as a temporary domain, or vehicle, whereby an individual spirit can become like God. This process includes but is not limited to: learning about good and evil, developing soul, and nurturing an eternal bond with a beloved partner (1:10:45).

Despite having spatiotemporal characteristics, the spirit tabernacle remains generally intangible from the common perspective and experience of mortal, physical entities, including human beings. Though imperceptible, the spirit enlivens, invigorates, enlightens and edifies, always seeking to reveal and express itself through the physical body (Y:51:25-28; 2:5:18-22; 2:6:28-31).

50 For the flesh of the body is the door to the spirit within; and by the doing of spiritual things is there revealed the pathway to the soul, being together as all in one and one in all, ever moving and flowing into each the other through the rhythms of their life.

4th Endowment 14:50

The spirit and soul of a person represent the true, greater reality of that person (2:5:18-21; 4:12:17-33; 4:14:45-47; 4:24:39-40; 4:29:37-58). However, the “furnace of mortality” (W:23:31; W:24:24) presents an array of illusions, temptations and delusions which arise through the physical senses. The illusions and lesser realities of the mortal experience serve to test and teach the spirit, thus providing the spirit opportunity to identify the true worth of things, learn about good and evil, and increase in strength, virtue and wisdom (4:4:52-58; 5:1:38-44; W:22:13-19).

Spirit maturation, soul creation, and exaltation can only be achieved through participation in mortal schooling environments (4:1:57). For all spirit children, this schooling process involves systematically incarnating into mortal bodies brought forth through evolutionary processes on “lower” worlds (W:25:14-23; 4:6:1-5). Over the course of numerous incarnations, a juvenile spirit child will begin to develop soul and shape the nature of his or her character.

Composition of Spirit

For the light which flowed was made a liquid light, and the intelligences which moved within were fashioned themselves of absolute matter, being bound together through some mathematical construct of the Mother’s making.
~3rd Endowment 32:35~

The Song of God presents bodies of spirit as being composed of an eternal substance referred to as “absolute matter” (3:32:35; 4:1:28-29). Scripture indicates that common matter (also “unorganized” or “uncreated” or “unformed” matter) may become “absolute” (or “eternal” or “organized”) as a result of being combined with, immersed in, or fully comprised of fundamental particles of pure intelligence (4:2:8-9). These fundamental particles are referred to in scripture as “AZ particles“, and exist as the “seeds of life”, the universal life force, and—in some sense—quantum reflections of Eternal Mind (4:1:36-44, 54; 4:2:39-40).

Absolute matter, or eternal matter, is different from common matter in that it is significantly enhanced, quickened and enlivened by AZ particles (5:12:11; 3:1:24-27). Put simply: spirit structures, including human spirit tabernacles, are comprised of absolute matter, i.e. AZ particles, i.e. pure intelligence. (W:14:12; 4:1:53).

In an entry contained in the Commentary portion of the Song of God, Wood elaborated on the difference between a mortal, physical body and an exalted spirit body:

[…]An exalted spirit is far different than you are as a mortal being. As a mortal being, you could not touch and feel a person of spirit. Touch your hand and you can feel it. But if you try to touch the hand of someone who is an exalted spirit, your hand would simply pass through them. The only sensation you would experience would be a warm tingling of your hand. However, a person who is an exalted spirit can touch and feel others of their kind. They can also touch and feel you, even though you are mortal. They can affect you; you cannot affect them. Added to this curiosity is the fact that an exalted being who possesses a glorified celestial tabernacle of physical flesh and bone can touch and feel a person of pure spirit.[…]

Wood, Song of God (2015), Commentary: House of El Shalon / El Shaloah—Part 2. Perfected Soul, p 802-803

Pre-Exalted vs Exalted

For even a little effort in seeking the spiritual will enlighten you, to fill the soul with wonder; so fear not, for the path of a little effort is not wasted, and there is no failure to him who tries. By your effort over many lifetimes will you be purified unto exaltation, and in the kingdom of God shall you dwell above the stars.
~Yeshua 50:37-38~

What does it mean for a spirit to be exalted? What is the primary difference between spirits that are exalted or “glorified”, and spirits that aren’t?

The Song of God reveals various stages a spirit child may occupy along his or her path of progression. However, broadly speaking, a spirit can be characterized as either being pre-exalted or exalted.

Pre-exalted spirits: these pre-glorified individuals range from newly organized spirit embryos who are completely innocent and unaware (4:1:56-57; 4:4:28), to spirit children who have begun to walk the pathway of eternal progression and develop their soul through mortal life experiences. These spirits lack a certain degree of soul depth and refinement, and are still working to create with a partner a rare, yet specific type of love and oneness that is necessary for exaltation and Celestial glory.

Pre-exalted spirits are limited in their capacities of sexual expression, and require physical bodies of flesh and bone to experience sexual passion. A pre-exalted spirit has not yet attained the love and power necessary for producing offspring of its own kind (4:31:62-63; 4:14:19-20; 4:15:25-26).

Exalted spirits: these individuals have achieved an exalted, Celestial state as a result of soul development and refinement, having formed over the course of many lifetimes, both mortal and immortal, an eternal bond with a Beloved partner. The first Celestial station or office that exalted couples will be inducted into is referred to as the office of Soul of the Just Made Perfect.

Spirit couples who achieve this glorified, exalted state have created between themselves a powerful, romantic type of love and oneness that reflects the love and oneness of their Heavenly Parents. Though details about the glorification process are limited, something occurs at this stage of development that empowers these glorified spirits with the capacity to experience the joys and sensations of sexual passion even while existing as beings of pure spirit.

Glorification (i.e. exaltation) is directly associated with soul development and the strength and power of the love forged by the spirit couple. Love is the binding agent of eternal unions and relationships (not earthly ordinances enforced by an oppressive patriarchy) (Y:40:10-11; 4:13:54-59). Love is the most powerful force in existence and is the only power that enables the procreation of spirit children (4:1:59-61; 4:14:26-31).

It is only after spirit couples forge an eternal, Beloved union and together achieve their exaltation that they become capable of procreating spirit children after their own likeness (4:1:16-32, 59-61; W:14:29-33).

Spirit children are brought forth by parents who exist as beings of pure spirit. For as is made clear throughout scripture: spirit gives birth to spirit; all things produce after their own kind (Commentary: Perfected Soul; W:16:14, 21; 4:28:10).

Procreation of Spirit

…causing that in the very moment of their orgasm there should explode from out of their spirit tabernacles together a greatly bursting light;
Which light contained the very spirit children of God, being themselves as particles of gold mingled with particles of silver, being themselves of equal portion; for the particles of gold were male, while yet the particles which appeared as silver were most fully female;

~4th Endowment 4:26-27~

Bodies of spirit have the potential to procreate or “organize” offspring of their own kind. While soul creation and development is purely an individual undertaking, spirit offspring are procreated by means of a heterosexual form of intercourse between an exalted male and female spirit couple. Alternately stated: While every individual is responsible for developing their own soul, every spirit child is procreated by God, as represented by a Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother, who—at this particular stage of their progression—exist as beings of pure exalted spirit.

As previously noted: this procreative potential can only be realized by spirit couples who together have achieved an exalted, glorified state as eternal Beloveds. This exalted state is attained via soul development and the creation of an eternal soul bond with a Beloved partner that is forged and strengthened over the course of many lifetimes, both mortal and immortal. Prior to achieving this exalted state, a spirit tabernacle is limited in its capacity to experience sexual passion (4:31:62-63). This is one of the reasons why physical bodies of flesh and bone are so important for the progression of spirit children.

A spirit couple’s ability to procreate is contingent upon the couple’s discovery and development of a rare type of love and oneness that is mutually nurtured, proven and maintained over many lifetimes (4:31:53; 4:14:18-20, 27). The man and woman who together have achieved this exalted state are identified as “Souls of the Just Made Perfect”[10]The phrase “Soul of the Just Made Perfect” identifies the first initiatory office pertaining to the Council of Elohim and the work of all Gods and Goddesses. See: Song of God (2015), … Continue reading and formally recognized as “eternal Beloveds“. Having achieved this glorified state, the spirit couple no longer requires physical tabernacles to fully give and receive of their sexual passions. These “Initiates of Glory”[11]Ibid. are exalted spirits, and as such, are capable of experiencing and creating orgasmic states that result in the organization of spirit embryos.

Not only is a certain depth of love and holiness required in order for Beloveds to fashion spirit children, but the sexual union must take place in a specific environment that is unique due to its high concentration of AZ particles. Within Wood’s cosmology, this particular environment is a key component to divine creation, and is referred to in scripture as the “streams of intelligence“.

For there is one power only which would cause that in this stream of intelligence, spirit children should leap forth, being found only in such love as a man might bear for a woman, and the woman might bear for the man.
~4th Endowment 1:59~

A literal interpretation of scripture presents the streams of intelligence as a vast concentration of AZ particles, or “intelligences”, so dense as to resemble rivers and streams of living, flowing light. This massive hub of AZ particles forms a network that is both alive and intelligent in purpose and design (4:1:29; 3:32:34-35).

Newly exalted spirit couples who are prepared to begin the next phase of their progression—to become “Perfected Souls” and Heavenly Parents to a host of spirit children—will enter the streams of intelligence and engage in a sexual, orgasmic union that results in a mass creation of spirit embryos.

While scripture offers certain detail about this procreation process[12]Prominent scriptural disclosures pertaining to the spirit procreation process are found in Wisdom 25:1-10 and 4th Endowment 4:12-28., Wood occasionally elaborated on the topic in response to student inquiries. The following (highlighted) material is a rendering from personal notes taken in 2004 based on Wood’s teachings.

The streams of intelligence are comprised of trillions upon trillions of AZ particles which collectively share an intelligence that is communal, not individual. Each AZ particle emits a wave, which wave generates a field. There occurs within the streams of intelligence an anomaly wherein certain AZ particles (numbered in the millions) change from having a collective “we” type of awareness, to an individuated awareness of self.

Recognizing and identifying themselves as separate and apart from the collective, these special “I” type AZ particles begin to uniquely, courageously and individually aspire. This shift/mutation from “we” to “I” creates a change in the characteristic of the wave / field / harmonic generated by the AZ particle. The harmony of these peculiar AZ particles no longer matches that of the regular AZ particle collective.

As the spirit couple initiates the act of love making in the streams of intelligence, they begin to create a harmonic which matches the harmonic of the peculiar AZ particles. The passion of the spirit couple establishes a field harmonic that attracts the anomalous AZ particles that have become self-aware. As the passion builds, the anomalous AZ particles begin to swirl around and through the spirit couple.

As the anomalous AZ particles pass through the ‘passion field’ of the spirit couple, they become increasingly erratic and unstable. The local harmonic becomes increasingly more intense. As the couple achieves orgasm, the following occurs:

1) The field of each anomalous AZ particle approaches critical mass.

2) Each anomalous AZ particle splits/divides (approximately a billion times) creating a conglomerate/cluster which possesses a much stronger gravitational field. This increased gravity field attracts the spirit element of the parents, which is drawn/forged into the splitting AZ particles.

As each AZ particle “cluster” (which was once a single AZ particle) passes through the spiritual/sexual essence of the Parents, the spirit element binds to the AZ particle cluster. This spirit element contains the genetic structural code of the Parents, and once combined with the AZ particle cluster, forms the embryo of the spirit child. Each spirit embryo contains the essence of both the Father and the Mother. The orgasm is the forge or furnace wherein spirit embryos are fashioned.

A single AZ particle becomes a single human spirit embryo. The embryo is about the size of a pinhead. It is innocent, unique, and incognizant. Millions of embryos, equally male and female, are created in a single orgasmic procreation event. Spirit embryos are gathered and taken to “Paradise”, which unique environment serves as a womb for the spirit embryos.

Wood expanded on the subject of spirit procreation and couples being inducted into the office of “Perfected Soul” in an entry included in his scripture Commentary:

[…] There beside the golden stream, you and your Beloved will step into the role of becoming Heavenly Parents yourselves. And in doing so, you will become Perfected Souls.

It is the passion of your love making within the golden stream that will attract those A-Z particles which desire to become the spirit children of God. It is the fire of your orgasm that forges A-Z particles together into becoming your spirit children. It is a spectacular thing to watch. For as you and your Beloved achieve orgasm together, there erupts out of the stream around you a vast explosion of spirit embryos, both male and female. These embryos are gathered by the Cherubim and placed within the Keep. There they will be nurtured until they achieve a state of self-awareness. It takes hundreds of orgasms to produce the millions of children needed to ensure your continuing progress through exaltation.

These spirit children, once they have achieved self-awareness, look just like any other group of human children. They are bright, precocious, rambunctious, playful, cuddly and eager to please their Heavenly Parents. The only difference being that they possess spiritual tabernacles instead of physical ones, and that these spirit children are without soul, for they are innocent. Soul is created through the living of many mortal lives strung together like pearls on a string. And this brings us to the next office, which is that of the Artificer.

You should understand that all spirit children, once they reach the point where they become self-aware, they simply cease to age or mature past a certain point. It is mortality which enables a spirit child to develop and mature. So if you were to take a peek into the world of Paradise and cast your gaze upon the spirit children of God, they would appear to you as being between five to seven years of age. Their innocence prevents them from advancing any further.

Spirit Nature and Procreation – Basic Review

Here is a review of significant points related to the procreation of human spirit as portrayed in the Song of God.
(Supporting references are not exhaustive.)

  1. Spirit children are procreated or “organized” by God, as represented by a Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother who exist as glorified beings of pure spirit.

  2. Spirit procreation is contingent upon soul development and the power of the love bond fashioned between the spirit father and spirit mother (4:1:59; 4:31:53; W:14:29-33).

  3. Spirit embryos are created en masse by spirit parents engaging in a mutually orgasmic, sexual union midst the streams of intelligence (W:25:1-7; 4:4:14-29).

  4. Spirit embryos are fashioned in an equal number of fully male and fully female spirits (4:4:26-28).

  5. Spirit embryos are not carried in the womb of the spirit mother. Spirit procreation does not involve viviparity, i.e. embryo development inside the body of the parent.

  6. The spirit father and mother will create millions of spirit embryos via hundreds of sexual encounters in the streams of intelligence (SOG-Commentary: El Shalon/El Shaloah: Perfected Soul).

  7. Heavenly Parents do not create spirit children with multiple partners.

  8. A human spirit begins as a small, helpless, innocent, incognizant embryo (4:4:28).

  9. Spirit embryos and juvenile spirits do not possess any significant depth of soul (4:1:56-57; 4:4:34, 52; 4:12:17-19).

  10. A spirit embryo has a specific temporal beginning. The fundamental element (AZ particle) from which a spirit embryo is fashioned is eternal. The origin and nature of AZ particles transcends spatiotemporal qualities.

  11. A spirit body is comprised of AZ particles organized into a substance referred to as “absolute matter” (3:32:35; 4:1:29). Absolute matter is a glorified, enlivened substance which is not subject to weak force and is affected only by processes of eternal progression.[13]This detail was recorded in my personal notes from a conversation with Wood on 4/1/05.

  12. Each spirit child becomes an independent, autonomous entity that is provided the opportunity to “determine the nature and disposition of what he or she chooses to be” (4:5:37).

  13. The spirit and soul together represent the greater self and true essence of a person (2:5:18-21; 4:12:32-33; 4:14:45-47; 4:24:39-40; 4:29:37-58; Topical Guide: Who am I?).

  14. A spirit body serves as a spatiotemporal yet eternal tabernacle (body) that contains (or houses) the soul, which is a repository of accumulated character, personality, wisdom and goodness (E:14:7-8; 3:32:28-30).

  15. The development, maturation and appearance of a spirit child is commensurate with personal soul development via the mortal life process. Innocent spirit children will cease maturing past the appearance of a human child of five to seven years of age (SOG-Commentary: El Shalon/El Shaloah: Perfected Soul).

  16. Spirit children develop soul by experiencing environments of opposition. This is accomplished primarily by incarnating into physical, mortal, human bodies brought forth through evolutionary processes. On God-created mortal worlds, human bodies serve as biological hosts for eternal beings (i.e. spirit children) in pursuit of greater glory.

Closing Remarks

The explicit nature, function and capability of “spirit” remains beyond my comprehension. However, the Song of God is clear in the following message:

As literal offspring of a Heavenly Mother and Heavenly Father, we represent a synthesis of the mortal and the immortal, the common and the divine, containing in our flesh not only the seeds of death, but also the seeds of eternal life. We are not the body which is seen, but the spirit which is unseen; and we are here, in part, to determine how well the greater self of our spirit and soul can turn the senses and passions of the body to some higher purpose.

With beauty and reason, the Song of God expands upon the ancient teaching that we, in our most basic nature, are eternal and boundless. According to Wood’s gnosis, the true essence of our being was forged in a magnificent, orgasmic explosion of love and light, intelligence and truth—to become part of an eternal family bound together by a love more powerful than any distance, darkness or sin.

In this post I have attempted to provide a thorough introduction regarding the nature of the spirit body, spirit procreation, and the relationship between spirit, soul, and the physical body.

But how did it all begin?
Where did spirit come from?
How did the first spirit parents come to exist?

In Part 2 of this series, I will address these questions by examining what scripture says about the origins of the living streams of intelligence and the rise of the first human spirits.

3 One might notice that these radical statements echo basic claims presented in LDS (Mormon) cosmology. Literal descendance from God as well as a pre-mortal existence are pillars of Mormon belief. However, attendant theology related to these ideas is shallow, contradictory, or simply non-existent, resulting in a feeble conceptual framework of belief supported mostly by incoherent, non-cohesive doctrine buttressed only by the believer’s “feelings”. This is one of the reasons why Wood’s work is especially significant for those of the Mormon/post-Mormon community searching for more theological substance, clarity and inspiration, as the Song of God offers an intelligible theory explaining several ideas relevant to Mormon cosmology, including the origins and nature of God, literal spirit procreation, and the connection between God, humankind and the universe. Wood’s book of scripture provides an impressively robust theological framework that empowers one’s faith with actual substance, coherence and utility. While my writings will surely fail to relate the book’s depth, beauty and potential, I am fixed in the belief that the Song of God is an inspired work that renders most other scriptural texts obsolete.

7 At the time of this writing, I can only speculate as to the significance of the term “organize” as it relates to the process of bringing forth spirit children. Other terms used to describe this process include: “create”, “procreate” and “fashion”. For example, compare: Wisdom 14; 4th Endowment 1:28-29; 4th Endowment 4:12-16.
8 Could human spirit be considered its own species, e.g. homo spiritus? I’m not sure if the word “species” appropriately describes what’s going on with this particular expression of spirit, but I’m interested in exploring this line of thought.
9 I use the words “house”, “contain” and “possess” to describe the spirit’s relationship to soul based on various passages (e.g. 3:32:28-29; 4:14:45).
10 The phrase “Soul of the Just Made Perfect” identifies the first initiatory office pertaining to the Council of Elohim and the work of all Gods and Goddesses. See: Song of God (2015), Commentary: House of El Shalon / El Shaloah; p 802-803

12 Prominent scriptural disclosures pertaining to the spirit procreation process are found in Wisdom 25:1-10 and 4th Endowment 4:12-28.
